DISCONTINUATION OF CATCH ALL MAIL ACCOUNTS

Effective from Wednesday, October 22nd 2008, Dataride Hosting will no longer be supporting "catch all" mail accounts on our shared and reseller hosting platforms. Recently, our mail servers have been suffering from performance issues directly attributed to catch-all mail accounts being attacked by spammers. The biggest impact they have on our servers is when a domain with a catch-all mail account configured is hit by a dictionary spam attack. This style of spam attack randomly tries to send email messages to thousands of unique email addresses to a particular domain. When the catch-all account is configured, this causes the mail server to accept all of this spam and valuable processing time and resources are wasted dealing with the massive flood of messages. In some cases, the attack is so severe that it causes the mail server to become completely unresponsive. A secondary impact of these dictionary attacks occurs after the catch-all account is deleted. Because the spammers have successfully delivered email to thousands of unique accounts, they now continue to send email to these email addresses on a daily basis. Even once the catch-all has been disabled for a domain, these repeated attempts to deliver mail to non-existent addresses can sometimes be so severe that the net effect is a denial of service attack on our mail server's SMTP service. Instead of using a catch-all mail account, we suggest that you configure mail aliases for individual email addresses that you actually want to accept incoming email for, and then direct those aliases to a single POP3 account. For example, if you want to accept email for info@domain.com, sales@domain.com, and support@domain.com, but want all of that email to be directed to owner@domain.com, you would setup a POP3 account for owner@domain.com, and setup the other email addresses as aliases. Please note, that if you already have a catch-all account configured, we encourage you to disable it else we would be doing it from our side. We are sorry for an inconvenience this change may cause you, but taking this step is necessary in order to provide a reliable mailing infrastructure at this time. All IIS settings have been restored, and we are currently working to restore all data source name settings in the ODBC and Cold Fusion Administrators. EMAIL DEFENSE UPDATE

The service provider who supplies our junk filtering and quarantine reporting has temporarily discontinued the quarantine portion of the service. That means that your inbox will still be protected against spam and viruses but for the time being you will not be able to see junk messages that have been filtered. Our provider has not provided us with a specific date as to when a quarantine service will once again be available. As you may know, since a poorly executed upgrade to the Email Defense service at the beginning of March, access and reliability of the quarantine has been spotty at best. Our provider has been unhappy with this but has been unable to determine a way to fix the underlying problems with the system. For that reason they've decided it is best to take the service off the market and only bring it back when it is "ready for prime time". Effective some time on May 4th you will no longer be able to access the web portal and you will no longer receive emailed reports about your quarantine. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you and hope you feel free to contact support if you have any questions not covered in this message.

As most of you know, Implex is making several needed upgrades to the Dataride Automated Hosting System to serve our web hosting clients even better. The Dataride Automated Hosting System is being upgraded to serve you better. Email Defense service has been restored to a certain degree. Some users are still experiencing intermittent issues logging into their quarantines and email processing may be slower than normal. This statement was issued from the folks at Email Defense: "On 29 November at approximately 9:30 AM EST (14:30 UTC), we began to experience degraded network performance because of an intermittent connectivity issue at our colocation provider. This issue affected several services including Email Defense. All network issues were resolved by approximately 10:00 EST (15:00 UTC). We sincerely apologize for this outage, and we working with our colocation provider to make sure this doesn?t happen again."

Email Defense is currently suffering from a network outage which is not allowing email into the Email Defense servers. Restore time is currently unknown. We will be upgrading one of the switches that transmits website requests to the internet on Nov 22 2006 between the hours of 7am and 8am CST. Estimated downtime will be about 10 minutes. COLDFUSION UPGRADE

web05.dataride.com, web04.dataride.com and web03.dataride.com will have a short downtime this evening, 10:00pm CST. We will be upgrading Coldfusion to 7.01 with the march hotfix pack. Downtime is expected to be less than 10 minutes for each server.

As of March 3, 2006 at aproximately 2:30pm CST the Helm control panel, MSSQL and NS1 server experienced a major hardware error. We are currently experiencing the following outages. The control panel interface Helm and MSSQL01 server is completely down. The windows system segment of the registry has become corrupt at aproximately 3:45pm CST February 21, 2006. We are currently rebuilding the server to restore services. We have not lost any data and we will be back online this evening. Best estimate of time is 3-4 hours. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
